Along with the rest of the Thunderbird, this engine was designed to have impact on the eye as well as the road, with machined engine fins and chrome covers contrasting against deep black barrels and crankcases. The Commander is bold all over. Triumph took the engine’s dominant styling and continued the theme across the entire bike with the quality and level of detailing you’d only expect from a Triumph cruiser. A massive polished top yoke and polished stainless steel fork shrouds, signature Triumph twin headlights, bespoke Commander badges, and art deco LED taillight and rear indicators combine for a powerful, low, lean, sleek custom cruiser look.
The Thunderbird’s 1699cc parallel twin engine kicks out a muscular 86PS and a thumping 146Nm of torque at just 2750rpm, unmatched for both sheer grunt and ease-of-use. Double overhead camshafts and a crankshaft with 270 degree firing intervals gives you an engine with autentic cruiser character. Fuelling is looked after by a sequential fuel injection system and progressive throttle linkage so your engine delivers its torque exactly the way you expect. It looks like air-cooling with its neat fins, but such a big, powerful engine is more efficient when cooled by liquid. That why the Thunderbird has a discreetly placed radiator between the frame’s front downtubes. The transmission uses a six-speed gearbox with a tall top ratio for relaxed highway cruising and exceptional fuel efficiency. The high tech materials in the belt and pulleys give you a drive train with an exceptionally long life and almost zero maintenance. Quiet, smooth, and the rear of the bike stays clean too.
The Thunderbird LT is set up for touring with large saddlebags, highway bars and pegs, sissy bar with passenger backrest and rear rack. The seat is comfortable for both driver and passenger for hours upon hours of smooth cruising. Plus, Triumph’s forethought means that this sweet ride has stiffer (and yet adjustable) suspension, to ensure maximum comfort even with a passenger and a luggage stowed away for two!

Fuel economy ranges from 38-56mpg, depending on your driving conditions, and the fuel tank holds 5.8 gallons of gas. 2016 Thunderbird LT is available in two striking color combos: Lava Red and Phantom Black, Crystal White and Phantom Black and in the single colored Jet Black.
